It is easy to identify a favorable buying or selling day after it has passed. It is much harder to recognize the exact top or bottom while the market is moving. A practical decision starts with your needs and the terms available, not a requirement to predict the next price change.
Set criteria before the quote arrives
If buying, decide on the product, budget and premium you are willing to consider. If selling, estimate the net proceeds you need and whether you have flexibility about timing. Include fees and the buying or selling spread in either calculation.
A previous high is not a promise that the market will return there. Your original purchase price also does not determine what another buyer will pay today. The CFTC’s precious-metals advisory discusses the possibility of losses and the limits of return promises.
Separate an informed decision from a rushed one
A quote that meets your criteria may be worth considering even if a better price later becomes possible. Conversely, you should resolve uncertainty about authenticity, payment or the seller before proceeding. Avoiding market-timing pressure does not mean skipping due diligence.
Some owners prefer transactions in stages to reduce dependence on one day’s price. That approach can also add costs and does not guarantee a better result. Compare it with the size and purpose of your transaction.
