When this article was originally published, BullionDirect.com, a large online coin and bullion dealer, had recently suspended operations because of transactional delays. The article said the following message appeared on the company’s homepage:
Bullion Direct has experienced significant transactional delays. To avoid further inconvenience or other adverse consequences to our customers, Bullion Direct is suspending its operations as it attempts to resolve those issues. We intend to keep you informed at this website. Thank you for your patience.
The article’s additional research indicated that Bullion Direct had allegedly left a substantial number of orders unfilled. Comments on Gold Dealers Reviews indicated that some customers had waited months for orders without communication from Bullion Direct or its representatives. At that time, it also had an “F” Better Business Bureau rating and its accreditation had been revoked.
Atlanta Gold & Coin had previously shared two other instances involving large online bullion and coin dealers that encountered major problems and later left the business. Bullion Direct’s future was uncertain, but the original article reported that several established, respected online dealers had recently failed. It said readers should thoroughly research the reputation before using an online dealer, while asserting that online ordering was not 100% secure.
Because of risks of unfilled orders and other considerations, the article recommended then using a local coin dealer. It identified immediate possession of coins and bullion as the most important benefit and said other benefits of working locally had been outlined. It did not claim that online dealers were inherently unsafe; it simply made the case that local was preferable.
Atlanta Gold & Coin said it hoped readers found the post informative and that it would continue sharing developments involving BullionDirect.com. At publication, readers were invited to contact Atlanta Gold & Coin at any time regarding coin and bullion buying or selling, and the company said it looked forward to earning their business.
