An interesting development occurred this week that we thought might be of interest to our subscribers. At the request of the U.S. Secret Service, eBay has agreed to cancel and ban all auctions for privately minted Liberty Dollars. According to eBay, the reason for the ban is that these coins are now considered counterfeits or replicas by the U.S. government, and they have a strict guideline of forbidding the auctioning of counterfeit items.
These coins were produced by NORFED, whose founder, Bernard von NotHaus, was found guilty by the U.S. government of counterfeiting. The 68 year old von NotHaus faces up to 20 years in prison.
