Atlanta Gold and Coin Buyers is one of the most aggressive silver coin buyers in metro Atlanta and beyond, and offers incredibly competitive rates when you sell junk silver coins. There’s some confusion as to what constitutes junk silver coins, so we’ll attempt to clear up that confusion in this short post.

Junk silver commons are most commonly associated with 90% silver U.S. dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted in 1964 and earlier. U.S. silver dollars minted in 1935 and earlier are also occassionally referred to as junk silver coins, but these coins typically sell at a slightly higher rate than silver silvers, quarters, and half dollars.

The term junk implies that the coins don’t contain collectible or numismatic value; therefore, older minted U.S. silver coins, such as Flowing Hair, Capped Bust, Draped Bust, and Seated Liberty dimes, quarters, and half dollars, typically don’t fall into this category.

While a majority of silver dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted after Seated Liberty coins are considered junk silver coins and sell based on the silver content, there are some key date or low mintage type coins that sell at a premium, such as the 1916-D Mercury dime, the 1932-D and 1932-S Washington quarters, and the 1921 Walking Liberty half dollars, so when you’re ready to sell silver coins, you should only consider selling to a coin dealer that can help you to identify these coins.

The price of silver has been performing well, so now is a great time to sell your junk silver coins. Contact Atlanta Gold and Coin Buyers today to receive a free no-obligation coin appraisal. We look forward to hearing from you and earning your business!
